¹ Early in the reign of Zedekiah ^[a] son of Josiah king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the LORD :

² This is what the LORD said to me: “Make a yoke out of straps and crossbars and put it on your neck.

³ Then send word to the kings of Edom, Moab, Ammon, Tyre and Sidon through the envoys who have come

to Jerusalem to Zedekiah king of Judah.

⁴ Give them a message for their masters and say, ‘This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says:

¹ “Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture!” declares the LORD.

²Therefore this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says to the shepherds who tend my people: “Because you have scattered

my flock and driven them away and have not bestowed care on them, I will bestow punishment on you for the evil you have

done,” declares the LORD.

³ “I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them and will bring

them back to their pasture, where they will be fruitful and increase in number.

⁴ I will place shepherds over them who will tend them, and they will no longer be afraid or terrified, nor will

¹ This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD : ² “Go down to the potter’s house,

and there I will give you my message.”

³So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel.

⁴ But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot,

² “Judah mourns,
her cities languish;
they wail for the land,
and a cry goes up from Jerusalem.

³ The nobles send their servants for water;
they go to the cisterns
but find no water.
