4 09 2010

1 The word of the LORD came to me: 2“Son of man, set your face against the mountains of Israel;

prophesy against them 3 and say: ‘O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Sovereign LORD.

This is what the Sovereign LORD says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys:

I am about to bring a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places.

4 Your altars will be demolished and your incense altars will be smashed;

and I will slay your people in front of your idols…to continue reading click here

Ezekiel 1 – 5

3 09 2010

1 In the [a] thirtieth year, in the fourth month on the fifth day, while I was among the exiles by

the Kebar River, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God.

2 On the fifth of the month—it was the fifth year of the exile of King Jehoiachin-

3the word of the LORD came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, [b] by the Kebar River in the land

of the Babylonians. [c]There the hand of the LORD was upon him.

4 I looked, and I saw a windstorm coming out of the north—an immense cloud with flashing

lightning and surrounded by brilliant light. The center

of the fire looked like glowing metal…to continue reading click here

Lamentations 3 – 5

2 09 2010

1 [a] I am the man who has seen affliction
by the rod of his wrath.

2 He has driven me away and made me walk
in darkness rather than light;

3 indeed, he has turned his hand against me
again and again, all day long.

4 He has made my skin and my flesh grow old
and has broken my bones…to continue reading click here

Jeremiah 52 – Lamentations 2

1 09 2010

1 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years.

His mother’s name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah; she was from Libnah.

2 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, just as Jehoiakim had done

.3 It was because of the LORD’s anger that all this happened to Jerusalem and Judah,

and in the end he thrust them from his presence.
Now Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

4 So in the ninth year of Zedekiah’s reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month,

Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his whole army.

They camped outside the city and built siege works all around it…to continue reading click

Jeremiah 50 – 51

31 08 2010

1 This is the word the LORD spoke through Jeremiah the prophet concerning Babylon and the land of the Babylonians [a] :

2 “Announce and proclaim among the nations,
lift up a banner and proclaim it;
keep nothing back, but say,
‘Babylon will be captured;
Bel will be put to shame,
Marduk filled with terror.
Her images will be put to shame
and her idols filled with terror.’

3 A nation from the north will attack her
and lay waste her land.
No one will live in it;
both men and animals will flee away.

4 “In those days, at that time,”
declares the LORD,
“the people of Israel and the people of Judah together
will go in tears to seek the LORD their God…to continue reading click

30 08 2010

1 Concerning Moab:
This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says:
“Woe to Nebo, for it will be ruined.
Kiriathaim will be disgraced and captured;
the stronghold[a] will be disgraced and shattered.

2 Moab will be praised no more;
in Heshbon [b]men will plot her downfall:
‘Come, let us put an end to that nation.’
You too, O Madmen, [c] will be silenced;
the sword will pursue you.

3 Listen to the cries from Horonaim,
cries of great havoc and destruction.

4 Moab will be broken;
her little ones will cry out. [dto continue reading click

Jeremiah 43 – 47

28 08 2010

1 When Jeremiah finished telling the people all the words of the LORD their God—everything the LORD

had sent him to tell them-

2 Azariah son of Hoshaiah and Johanan son of Kareah and all the arrogant men said to Jeremiah,

“You are lying! The LORD our God has not sent you to say, ‘You must not go to Egypt to settle there.’

3 But Baruch son of Neriah is inciting you against us to hand us over to the Babylonians,

[a]so they may kill us or carry us into exile to Babylon.”

4 So Johanan son of Kareah and all the army officers and all the people disobeyed the LORD’s

command to stay in the land of Judah…to continue reading click

1 Shephatiah son of Mattan, Gedaliah son of Pashhur, Jehucal[a] son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur son

of Malkijah heard what Jeremiah was telling all the people when he said,

2 “This is what the LORD says: ‘Whoever stays in this city will die by the sword, famine or plague,

but whoever goes over to the Babylonians [b] will live. He will escape with his life; he will live.’

3 And this is what the LORD says: ‘This city will certainly be handed over to the army of the king

of Babylon, who will capture it.’ “

4 Then the officials said to the king, “This man should be put to death. He is discouraging the

soldiers who are left in this city, as well as all the people, by the things he is saying to them.

This man is not seeking the good of these people but their ruin….to continue reading click

26 08 2010

1 While Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army and all the kingdoms and peoples

in the empire he ruled were fighting against Jerusalem and all its surrounding towns, this word

came to Jeremiah from the LORD :

2“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Go to Zedekiah king of Judah and tell him,

‘This is what the LORD says: I am about to hand this city over to the king of Babylon, and he will burn it down.

3You will not escape from his grasp but will surely be captured and handed over to him. You will see the king of

Babylon with your own eyes, and he will speak with you face to face. And you will go to Babylon.

1 “At that time,” declares the LORD, “I will be the God of all the clans of Israel, and they will be my people.”

2 This is what the LORD says:
“The people who survive the sword
will find favor in the desert;
I will come to give rest to Israel.”
